AEI
provided mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering
services along with architectural support for upgrades to the
existing boiler plant. The
project scope entailed a complete analysis of the steam
distribution system campus-wide; report outlining current and
10-year prediction for steam requirements; report of
recommendations for campus distribution system future upgrades;
recommendations for sizing and configuration of the proposed steam
plant; design of the new steam-plant inclusive of steam (high,
medium, and low pressure), feedwater, chemical treatment, #2 and
#6 oil, de-aeration, softened water, domestic water, and
automation systems. The design additionally provided upgrades to the smokestack as
facilitated by an air modeling study conducted under the direction
of AEI. Electrical
and structural systems were upgraded as required to support the
renovations. The new plant was doubled in capacity and was
outfitted with state-of-the-art emissions monitoring and fully
automated controls. AEI
provided construction administration services and through the use
of a temporary steam plant (inclusive in the design) was
successful in the implementation of a new steam plant at the
existing location with essentially zero downtime in steam
production.
